What is PC Phone Service or PC to Phone Call?

PC Phone call also as known as PC to Phone Call is the way to place and receive phone calls using your computer and Internet connection with a computer software called softphone. Basically, softphone enables making telephone calls over the Internet using a general purpose PC or laptop, rather than using dedicated hardware using VoIP or Voice over IP technology.

Softphone is designed to behave like a traditional telephone, appearing as an image of a phone, with a display panel and buttons with which the user can interact. Softphone is usually used with a headset connected to the PC or laptop .

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and is a technical way of saying "using the Internet for making telephone calls." VoIP technology with PC Phone service converts regular (or analog) phone calls into data (or digital) and zips them through your high-speed Internet connection.

Skype, Vonage and Google Talk are Internet telephone service providers having their own softphones that you install on your computer but these providers are not interoperable, and you can't place a direct call between them since they all use proprietary communication protocols.
